When this ragtime piano echoes just out of time
And sunflowers bloom in autumn
And screaming dandelions dance up your leg
And a familiar song marks an unmarked path
Who will we pray for to show us the way?
When wedding rainbows linger and linger
And the history of football ends in despair
And sex workers are treated like people
And the history of everything is mad
Who will we hold hands with if not each other?
When beauty is erased and replaced with a vengeance

The KKK In Maine
03:48
|
|||
In 1923 the town of Milo held a Labor Day parade
The first march in daylight ever by the KKK
Lined up by three
All down Main Street
Who did you know?
In 1924 Owen Brewster ran for governor of Maine
Had the backing of the Klan but you wouldn't ever hear him say it
They said they'd elect one
Landslide statewide
Who did you know?
In 1928 the Klan was out of Milo, nearly out the state
Forty-thousand people strong but none of them would show their faces
Now the Klan's running
Brewster knows nothing
What did you know?

Is this the first time or have we been here before?
Familiar songs play on, it's all beautiful
But why do I feel uncertain when I'm alone?

The Evening Never Dawns
01:56
|

There are days like this
Angry and in jest
Superstitious and wild
Unnerving in their brevity
There are days like this
So light and wasteful
Brief and fading
Like the cycles of the sea
There are days like this
Haunted and wicked
Indescribable and oh so cold
The evening never dawns
These days feel so alive
Chanting, singing, screaming to the skies

Premonition Eyes
03:29
|
|||
There's a moment before goodbyes when it all dawns on me
And there was a time when I thought I could make it stop
Make it go away
But every time I go there it's all waiting for me
Is it flashing before my eyes or am I scared to see?
Is it wrong to think of the ones I love dying
Or is it just a premonition?
A moment for reflection?
Is closing my eyes to preserve the frame
A way of saying goodbye in case I don't again?
But is it ever gone?
But is it ever gone?
But is it ever gone?
